Norville the Name
We are often asked where the name Norville Barnes` American Fare comes from. Norville is a fictional character from one of my favorite movies. The reason we used that name is simple: Norville was a less-than-intelligent person who was given an amazing opportunity through no good of his own. He took this opportunity and became smug at the fact that he was successful and bought into his own press. He demeaned the people around him and used his success for no good. In the end, as in any good story, Norville had his come-uppance only to later realize that he was no genius.
I like this story because it reflects the humility that is so scarce these days, especially where success lies. We try to use this to remind us that the success we experienced at ABBEY can never be taken for granted and that we were lucky to achieve what we have. As this company moves forward, every venture we get into is a new challenge that does not entitle us to free success.
